1.) No, I’d never even heard of them - I think I normally unconsciously group Clive Barker in with Dean Koontz and Michael Crichton and really, I am not into crime/mystery. But a brief look at the Wiki page for Abarat makes me think I’ll probably look into it more - I like the paintings, and “young adult fantasy” sounds more like something Annie or I would like, yeah :) Bram Stoker award, “striking imagery” in a critical review, alright alright fine!
2.) I have a weird anti-video bias - there are very few I can stand to sit through. Look at it like this - I’m 30 years old and I’ve never seen a single Rocky, Rambo, Freddie, Jason, or STAR WARS movie. I walk out of movie theaters halfway through things. Anyway, YouTube/educational videos (OR WORSE PODCASTS OMG) are almost unbearable for me. I don’t know how to explain this without sounding crazy stuck up, but basically I think it moves too slowly so it’s like torture for me to stay focused. I can read really quickly and get very absorbed in a book, but with videos or even story telling when I was a kid at school, I always find I’m off thinking of something else and missed a bunch. ALL THAT SAID - if I was into videos I’d watch those, and I’ll probably refer Grant and the kids, who all adore YouTube and want to kill me with things like RadioLab in the van.
3.) Not really, and I mostly don’t mind giving it away to other things. I have some things in my mind that I’d like to do “Eventually,” which I think of as next Spring after I’m done at Miami Dade and am taking a semester off, except that I’ll be buckling down writing during that time, so…we’ll see.
